NATURE
NATIONAL FOREST OF FONTAINEBLEAU
Established as a biological reserve, the forest of Fontainebleau, considered as being the « green lung » of the region Ile de France, stretches out over more than 25 000 ha. Famous for its succession of sandstone rocks and sand deserts, it offers an extraordinary variety of landscapes and more than 300 kilometres of signposted hiking paths.
Internationally known as the most remarkable plain forest of Western Europe, the forest of Fontainebleau is listed between the « World network of Biosphere Reserves » since 1998. More than 5 000 plant species and over 6 000 animal species are counted here. This unique site also houses an important wild fauna: red deer, roes, wild boars, foxes, small mammals, birds...
The forest offers 300 kilometres of tracks in the most attractive zones. Therefore, it is the ideal place to get some fresh air, practise sports (mountainbiking, hiking, climbing) and just relax!
SENSITIVE NATURAL AREA OF THE PLAINE DE SORQUES
A sensitive natural area is a site offering special features related to its flora, fauna or beauty. Near the campsite, the 'plaine de Sorques' is an exceptional site between river and forest. You can explore it thanks to two bird observatories and a hiking path.
TO SEE: THE FELINE PARK IN NESLES
This park, the biggest of its kind in Europe, houses almost 150 felines: lions and tigers (white, Malaysian, Siberian), jaguars, servals, black panthers, northern lynxes, pumas, sand cats and many other species!
You can safely observe them by taking one of the four hiking tracks dedicated respectively to the European, the Asian, the African and American species. While most of these species are endangered in their natural environment, their reproduction is guaranteed in this park, thanks to an accommodation that is ideal for their well-being.
